Following a collaboration between two key areas of contemporary French clockmaking, UTINAM is proud to present the Kontwaz Bauhaus 2.
The Kontwaz Bauhaus 2 clock pairs the singularity of Philippe Lebru’s mechanical artworks with Bauhaus inspirations and Alain Silberstein’s signature colours.
This unique UTINAM creation, designed and made in Besançon and co-signed by the two artists, showcases innovation with its small off-centre seconds display.
Inspired by the iconic Pop-Up, designed by Philippe Lebru, the Kontwaz Bauhaus 2 is equipped with the famous UTINAM movement, which received the Grand Prix at the Lépine competition of Paris, as well as a Gold Medal in clockmaking at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions in 2005.
Produced as a limited series of 88 pieces, the “KB2” is available in the M.A.D. mechanical art galleries in Geneva, Taipei and Dubai founded by Max Büsser, another pioneer in independent watchmaking.
The “KB2” comes from Besançon in Franche-Comté (France) in the Arc Jurassien region, of which the mechanical watchmaking and mechanical art expertise are registered as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. Fully developed and crafted by the UTINAM manufacture, at the heart of the French watchmaking capital, this collaborative mechanical artwork is one of the foremost standard-bearers for this prestigious international label.
About Alain Silberstein:
Alain Silberstein comes from Besançon. A trained architect, he unveiled his first clockwork creations in 1987 at the Basel trade fair. An ex-student of Met de Penninghen and a Bauhaus disciple, he rose to popularity with daring creations defined by organic lines and an uncompromising use of primary colours. From that moment on, this architect and horologist became one of the founding fathers of contemporary clockmaking.
